Catholic Charities Assisting Columbia County Emergency Management Officials

Lake City, Fla. – The Lake City Regional Office of Catholic Charities, of the Diocese of St. Augustine, is working closely with emergency management officials in Columbia County to provide food and water for victims of flooding due to tropical storm Debby that hit North Florida earlier this week.

According to Suzanne Edwards, chief operating officer, Catholic Charities in Lake City is distributing food and water to victims of the flood in four counties: Columbia, Hamilton, Suwannee and Lafayette.

Governor Rick Scott will be in Columbia and Suwannee counties today assessing the damage of the storm that caused extreme flooding in these areas.

In the meantime, Catholic Charities is providing food and water for people who can get to distribution centers. The location of these centers is available through Columbia County officials.

The following items are needed, including financial donations:

  • Pop-top foods (ready to eat)
  • Granola Bars
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Shelf stable milk
  • Baby needs (diapers, food)
  • Personal Hygiene items
  • Paper Products (toilet paper, paper plates, tissue, assorted flatware, hand sanitizers, trash bags)
  • Canned Meats (tuna, chicken, salmon, etc.)
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Water
  • 100% fruit juice
  • Canned soups and chili
  • Pet food
  • Cleaning supplies
