‘Hey Batter, Batter!’ – Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine to Throw First Pitch
August 9, 2013 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Jacksonville, Fla. – Bishop Felipe J. Estévez of the Diocese of St. Augustine will throw out the first pitch at the Jacksonville Suns vs. Birmingham Barons Catholic Night at the Ballpark home game on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 7:05 p.m.

Having played catcher for a while as a young boy in his native Cuba, Bishop Estévez courageously agreed to throw out the ceremonious first pitch at the Suns game during the diocese’s Catholic Night at the Ballpark.

“I’m happy to help out in any way I can,” said the bishop. “Baseball is a great American pastime and one I’ve enjoyed playing for a while in my youth.”

Specially designed seat cushions, sponsored by St. Vincent’s Healthcare, will be given away to the first 500 people who show up to the baseball grounds for the game, and hand-held “cool-off” fans will be distributed to those sitting in the designated Catholic seating area.
