Bishop Felipe J. Estévez to Celebrate Mass for Portuguese-Speaking Catholics
October 1, 2013 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Jacksonville, Fla. – Bishop Felipe J. Estévez will be the chief celebrant at a Mass for Portuguese-speaking Catholics in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, Monday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast. Concelebrating the Mass is Father Daniel Guindon and Father Jason Trull, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.

The readings will be offered in both English and Portuguese, and Father Daniel Guindon, parochial vicar at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Jacksonville, will offer the homily in Portuguese.

A reception will immediately follow the Mass in the parish hall, and will include foods native to Portugal and Brazil. Portuguese-speaking Catholics from the Diocese of St. Augustine have been invited to attend.

Our Lady of Fatima is the name given to the Virgin Mary because between May 13 and Oct. 13, 1917, three Portuguese children received apparitions of Mary in a city near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners and for the conversion of Russia.
