January 7, 2014 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Jacksonville, Fla. – Bishop Felipe J. Estévez and members of other faith communities – including youth of these communities – will come together in prayer, discussion and song in tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 2:30 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 11757 Old St. Augustine Road.

“This Interfaith Service is an opportunity to forge new relationships among different faith communities and to promote fellowship and better understanding and acceptance of all people,” said Ernie Favors, chair of the Black Catholic Commission for the Diocese of St. Augustine. “We’ll focus on many of same ideals – equality, justice and peace – that Dr. King worked so tirelessly for.”

The service begins at 2:30 p.m. with the Edwards Waters College Concert Choir, followed by the main program at 3 p.m. with Bishop Estévez welcoming participants. Youth from various faith communities will speak about their respective faiths and many will participate in scriptural readings throughout the program.
