St. Augustine, Fla. – The news media is invited to an Open House on Thursday, March 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. to tour the interior renovations of the Cathedral Basilica, 38 Cathedral Place in St. Augustine.

Father Thomas Willis, the Cathedral’s rector will provide a brief overview of the renovations of the nation’s oldest Catholic Parish at 1 p.m. He will be available for one-on-one interviews afterwards.

Also on hand will be Brian Baker, owner of Baker Liturgical Art LLC, the company that masterfully performed the restoration work on the interior of the Cathedral Basilica.

The Cathedral has been closed since Jan. 4 while the renovations have been underway. The goal was to complete the work in time for Holy Week and Easter, said Father Willis. Parishioners will see the newly renovated Cathedral for the first time on Saturday, March 28.

The $4 million renovation project includes the removal of the sanctuary floor, painting of the sanctuary walls and ceiling, a complete reconstruction of the choir loft over the front entrance, improved lighting and some additions to the Cassavant-Freres pipe organ.
