St. Augustine, Fla. – In light of recent incidents of violence and racial tension in communities across the United States, Bishop Felipe J. Estévez will join his brother bishops across the country in a Day of Prayer for Peace.

Bishop Estévez will preside at a Prayer Service for Healing, Unity and Peace on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine beginning at 7 p.m. All are welcome to gather in solidarity. He calls us to be “a light in the darkness.”

To assist in the observance of this occasion, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is offering a Prayer for Peace in Our Communitiesprayer card. Please share with your viewers and readers.

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, has appointed a special task force to support the bishops in marking tomorrow’s Day of Prayer, (on the feast of St. Peter Claver, Sept. 9) and more broadly, in promoting peace and healing during this time of great strain on civil society.

Atlanta’s Archbishop Wilton Gregory, chairman and member of the Task Force will answer questions from media during a Telephone/Livestreamed Media Availability today from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. (EDT). Joining him will be Bishop Shelton Fabre of Houma-Thibodaux, Louisiana, chairman of the subcommittee for African American Affairs and a member of the USCCB Task Force to Promote Peace in Our Communities.

Reporters need to connect by phone in order to ask questions. Only news media planning to participate should RSVP to receive access number by contacting Norma Montenegro Flynn, nmontenegro@usccb.org. Please include your name, outlet name and job title.
