January 25, 2017 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Cedar Key, Fla. – Father Joseph McDonnell, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland, will celebrate a Mass on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. It will be the first Mass celebrated for Catholics in the new St. Andrew Catholic Chapel, a white house located at 12513 State Road 24 across from the Blue Desert Cafe in Cedar Key.

Over the last several months, Bishop Felipe J. Estévez of the Diocese of St. Augustine has been working hard with Father McDonnell to establish a Catholic presence in Cedar Key. They have leased a house and made the necessary renovations to the property to provide a worship space and place to gather for Catholics in the area. More improvements to the property are underway.

Father McDonnell is the pastor overseeing the Chapel in Cedar Key along with his duties as pastor of St. John the Evangelist in Chiefland, Holy Cross Mission in Cross City and Christ the Good Shepherd Mission in Trenton.
