Sacred Heart Catholic School Teacher Inducted into Belmont Abbey Hall of Fame

Jacksonville, Fla. – Kay Schellenberg, a third-grade teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Jacksonville, will be inducted into the Michael P. Reidy Athletics Hall of Fame at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 12 during homecoming weekend.

To celebrate this beloved teacher’s accomplishment, a surprise pep rally and volleyball game will be held in her honor Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 1:45 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic School’s gym, 5752 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville.

“Sacred Heart is blessed to have Kay as one of our teachers, and even more so to know her as a person and a friend,” said Gina Code, principal of Sacred Heart.

Schellenberg, 28, played on the Bellmont Abbey women’s volleyball team from 2009 to 2012. She was named 2012-13 Conference Conference Carolinas Female Athlete of the Year after earning Player of the Year for volleyball and an NCAA Woman of the Year Award nomination. Schellenberg led the team to a 26-5 overall record and first Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in school history. She was the first player in school history to earn all-region honors (honorable mention All-Southeast Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association/AVCA) after leading. Schellenberg is one of three individuals and one team to be inducted into the hall of fame this year.
