Catholic Schools Week Celebrated Nationwide the Last Week of January
January 16, 2020 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Jacksonville, Fla. – Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated nationwide the last week of January (Jan. 26-Feb. 1). The theme is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.  Sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), Catholics Schools Week is a celebration of the contributions and excellence of Catholic education in the United States. It provides schools with an opportunity to thank parents and family, parishes and the community for the gift of Catholic education.

Schools mark the occasion with assemblies, special Masses, open houses and other activities. Local Catholic schools will also provide service by collecting food to help stock the food pantries of Catholic Charities throughout the diocese. Every school in the diocese will celebrate Catholic Schools Week with an open house on Wednesday, Jan. 29, during the entire school day.

Catholic Schools Week also promotes Parental School Choice, which supports the concept of full and fair parental choice in education which is supported by tax relief, vouchers, scholarships and other aid to parents so that they may seek the educational opportunities they want for their children.

“We open our doors to all 37 entities so that parents and students can see what Catholic schools have to offer,” said Deacon Scott Conway, superintendent of Catholic Schools,
